Captain Canine Accrington

A little bit about the person behind Captain Canine..........

Hi, I'm Sarah. Dogs and animals in general have always been my passion, from a very young age I was sure I wanted to work with animals. I have shared my life with dogs since birth really, from family dogs to my own loyal companions, there's not been many times that I haven't had a dog around. I am a qualified groomer and ran a busy grooming parlour for many years. I am canine first aid trained and have completed many dog related courses, from interactive play workshops with Craig Oglivie to an in depth Reactivity course and everything in between. I am currently studying with The School of Canine Science, working through the 3 year Behaviour Bible course.

Its not all about the dogs though, I have owned cats, most small animals, reptiles and parrots, oh and of course not forgetting the fish. Over the next few days I will introduce the various services that Captain Canine Accrington will have to offer along with my experiences, starting with the canine crew.....

I currently share my sanity with 3 dogs, a rottweiler x old English sheepdog (Captain Flint) who started my interest in behaviour and reactivity after he was attacked by another dog and subsequently became reactive; a nearly 2 year old Rottweiler (Calypso), she's my main sports dog, we are working towards our BH in the IGP sport, we do a lot of obedience training out around Oswaldtwistle, so don't be afraid to say hi or watch us when we train, distractions are always good to work around; and Duke my German Shepherd rescue, he's only a pup at just over a year old, so it's all about fun and foundations for him.

I feed all my dogs a balanced raw food diet and have no problem using raw food as treats or helping you to take the first step in feeding fresh foods. I am happy to use your choice of food or treats on walks and will work alongside your dog trainer to help iron out any behavioural issues your dog maybe working on.

Having brought up several puppies myself I know the huge importance of environmental exposure for young puppies. If you are welcoming a new pup into your life need some help getting them out and about whilst you are at work just drop me a line and I will ensure that they go to a different environment every day, whilst supporting them through their fear stages with appropriate rewards and patience.
